Good Guys 9.5/10

Good guys’ tag-line is “A little wine bar next door to a little cocktail bar,” situating themself in relation to their older sister Attaboy next door. I’d counter that Good Guys is in fact cocktail-forward itself. Because while the list of approx 10 wines isn’t at all uninteresting, their list of cocktails grabs the eye faster and holds the attention. At about $19-21 each these cocktails belong on a list (if anyone is compiling it) of ~$20 cocktails in New York that are worth their price. The delicious cocktails are backed up by the friendly and knowledgable service. On a Sunday night around 8 pm the bar was neither empty nor crowded, but it was lively in its own right, not needing a crowd to provide the air of livelihood. The vibes, decor, and the lighting allow Good Guys to operate as whatever you need it to be. Exactly the right amount of mood lighting without being too dark, exactly the right amount of background ambience tunes without being or too loud or too quiet. Good Guys could fit the bill for a catch-up between friends, or a girl's night, or a romantic date night, and nail each one. Cozy up in the booth seating in the back of the bar, or cozy up on the barstools, either way you’ll be cozy with the one you brought.

We ordered the Purple Panther ($21) and the Gibson ($21) and sipped on each one for close to an hour, because the drink is rich, balanced, and full enough to last you. While we didn’t try the small bites on their menu, I look forward to going back again to pair my mezcal cocktail with the dips and tinned fish that highlight the “bites” list.

Or rather than closing out your night at Good Guys, stop by before going out for a pick-me-up in the form of their espresso-and-prosecco spritz! Despite the menu being a small almost post-card sized item, Good Guys has layers to it. A bar where each person around the table could have a different taste profile experience and all will leave happy, satisfied, and mellow.

Good guys is an absolute return!
